The War Of Art, Love & Real Strength Training

Jun 28, 2024

It’s interesting to observe society and see how it creates its own problems and then complain of these issues as though we all had nothing to with them.

Unfortunate events and societal issues, are looked upon as all random manifestations, separate from our own behaviour.

I’m convinced much of the societal rot we are seeing is the result of weak men creating hard times, who are given a voice by so many men looking for safety and security outside of themselves.

The participating of tuning in and listening to those who care nothing for the wellbeing of those in society, gives weak men a platform.

Our entire culture has become one of attention seeking, fake virtues and the desire to be worshipped.

Even though these are all traits of a weak man, they are admired.

The loveless, dishonest, immoral voices in society are not only growing but encouraged.

The weak man, who has a hollow void of masculinity, has a deep insecurity, that manifests in the desire to be worshipped, loved and admired.

Yet he cannot love, be honest or serve and protect, because his life is aimed and manipulated towards the demand for self importance and superiority from those around him.

Despite everything going on around us, we still have the choice to create ourselves and our society through aiming at something different.

Let us remember the strong masculine men are those with the courage to love fully, they know this nurtures, protects and forges society for the better.

It is the warrior who has love in his heart because he has aimed his life at courage.

Bushido - The way of the warrior writer Inazo Nitobe once wrote:

“Beneath the instinct to fight there lurks a diviner instinct to love.”

It is in the deepness of our self investigation and wisdom, we find our highest self and our most courageous life.

Real Strength Training

When I was 19 years old (A long time ago!) I won a Southern England Bodybuilding title. I thought in that moment I would experience some sort of arrival as a confident, courageous man but the opposite actually happened.

I realised my fear had intensified and the physical look I had worked so hard to achieve, held no solution to my own inner turmoil.

This is a fairly common approach in the gym and actually a huge fitness myth. The idea that if someone changes his physique, he will receive an equal psychological transformation isn’t true.

Likely it will be used as a convenient cover, to mask aspects of himself and his life that are difficult to face.

I covered this and how to gauge if how you train is enhancing all aspects of your life.

The War Of Art

A client asked me recently for a book recommendation, that stirs someone to action, to pursue what they desire to achieve and I recommended the book by Steven Pressfield:

The War of Art: Break Through the Blocks and Win Your Inner Creative Battles.

“Bestselling novelist Steven Pressfield identifies the enemy that every one of us must face, outlines a battle plan to conquer this internal foe, then pinpoints just how to achieve the greatest success.

The War of Art emphasizes the resolve needed to recognize and overcome the obstacles of ambition and then effectively shows how to reach the highest level of creative discipline.”

Highly respected marketing guru and author Seth Godin, revealed in an interview that this is the book he carries with him.

I've always liked Steven Pressfield's books and his recreation of the 300 Spartans battle against the Persians in his book Gates Of Fire, is a masterpiece of storytelling.

Once you commit to a vision, a testing task or a seriousness about changing your life, resistance will rear its powerful head in a multitude of differing voices, personalities and distractions.

I highly recommend The War Of Art as a battle plan against this resistance.
